Youth Voice teamed up with B.M.C. Durfee High School graduate Vanessa Coie, now a sophomore at Eastern Connecticut State University, on her school project to collect food for needy families. Vanessa organized a fun event to raise awareness about hunger by bringing youth groups together while giving back to the community. Youth leadership groups were challenged to help collect canned goods and send representatives and advisors to the “Kicking for Hunger” kickball game on November 19, 2011 at the Boys and Girls Club. Entry to the event required the donation of three canned goods, and group that brought the most canned goods won a $50 gift certificate for a pizza party. All proceeds went to benefit the Fall River Boys and Girls Club. For more information about the event, contact Fall River Fall River Youth Services Director Christian McCloskey at 508-324-2419.
