Mayor William Flanagan hosted a meeting to move forward on plans for construction of a bicycle path and Gateway City park through the Quequechan River Greenway that borders Britland Park, Father Travassos Park and a connection to Brayton Avenue. Kurt Gaertner of the Gateway Cities Parks Program and representatives of the Brown, Richardson & Rowe landscape architects and planners of Boston met with city officials and Department of Conservation and Recreation land acquisition representative Shawn Provenchar on April 26, 2011 at Government Center. Some of the required engineering studies have recently been completed. Following an update on potential bike path segments, the group made plans to meet with representatives of adjacent properties, including the Fall River Housing Authority to continue to move the plan forward. The concept was originally conceived over a decade ago and plans proposed with a concept prepared by Urban River Visions in 2002. This plan was most recently updated in the Open Space and Recreation Plan of 2010-2016. For more information, contact City Planner Jim Hartnett at 508-324-2561.
