The
Massachusetts Safe Routes to
School (SRTS) program is
a free service of the Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT).
Through SRTS, MassDOT
promotes healthy alternatives for children and
parents in their travel to and from school. It educates students,
parents and community members on the value of walking and bicycling for
travel to and from school. School Outreach Coordinators Catherine
King and Anna Isaacson from Safe
Routes to School met with over 100 children
at the 21st Century Summer Program at the Greene Elementary School and at
the Pulaski Park and Lunch activity program on July 19, 2011. They engaged
the children in a number of games designed to teach both pedestrian and
bicycle safety and to encourage children to be more active overall. Click
here for a
video of the program. Click

Viveiros School in 2009. For
more information about the program, contact School Wellness coordinator Marcia Picard
at 774-319-0107.
