The Fall River YouthBuild program announced on February 1, 2011 the offer of assistance to Fall River senior and disabled residents with clearing the snow from recent snowfalls. According to the Fall River Herald News, "Mayor Will Flanagan Tuesday announced the city is partnering with YouthBuild Fall River and The Herald News to help shovel out seniors and disabled residents in need of help. Through the partnership, those in need of help can either contact the mayor’s office at 508-324-2600 and talk to Neighborhood Outreach Coordinator Perry Long or log on to heraldnews.com/community, where residents can click on a link and report an address to have it appear on an interactive map. Requests for service will then be distributed to teams from YouthBuild, who will be armed with shovels and traveling the streets." The YouthBuild program, run by the Old Colony YMCA, offers a ten-month work skills training curriculum for men and women ages 17-24 who have not completed high school and has been in operation in Fall River since August of 2006.
