Students at the John J. Doran Elementary Schools and other Fall River Schools will be purchasing their school lunches with electronic swipe cards at the check out register. As of January 25, 2011, parents will be able to log onto MyNutrikids.com and make payments with credit cards, debit cards, e-checks or PayPal. Parents will get e-mail reminders when their child's balance is getting low. Students on the free and reduced lunch program will use the same card to check out in the same manner. Parents will also be able to see an on-line report of the purchases. Parents with more than one child in the system will have one account. The system eliminates cash and lost cash! Cards for elementary school students are held by the teachers and given to the students before they go to the cafeteria to minimize card loss. "The system is working very well," noted school food service supervisor Nancy McCloskey. "It speeds the lines giving children more time to eat." The system was installed by Whitson's School Nutrition as part of its contract to provide food service to the Fall River Schools. For more information, contact School Wellness Coordinator Marcia Picard.
