Pat Bebo, project leader of the University of Massachusetts Extension Nutrition Education Program in Fall River, and four of her nutrition educators visited the Westport Town Farm in Westport, MA, on July 6, 2011 to gather produce to use in a cooking demonstration at the Fall River Downtown Farmers' Market. The garden is maintained by South Coast Farm Manager Steve Connors of the Trustees for Reservations who own and operate the farm. Steve talked about how he uses organic methods to control insects and disease even though the farm is not certified as "organic." Produce from the farm is donated to local food banks, and much of the labor is donated by volunteers and student interns who work at the farm throughout the summer. Click here for the video of the visit. Click here for photos of student interns from Fall River working on the garden. For more information, contact Pat Bebo at 508-675-7315.
