Members
of Green Futures led a group of
about a dozen walkers walk through the Copicut Woods on an beautiful April
14th, 2012 The 13,600 acre Copicut Woods Bioreserve was established and is
managed cooperatively by The
Trustees of Reservations, the City of Fall River, and the
Massachusetts Executive Office of Environmental Affairs, Department of
Environmental Management, and Division of Fisheries and Wildlife. Copicut,
a Wampanog word meaning "Deep Woods", is
one of the largest areas
of undisturbed forest in Massachusetts and serves as a gateway to the
wilderness from the City of Fall River. "Not many people in Fall
River realize that this is part of the City," noted Green
Futures Education Director Everett Castro, who led the group along
with Roger Garant. "A lot of the early history of Fall River took
place on the farms that once occupied this land," he added. Click
here for an eleven-minute
video of the walk. For more information about Green Futures, contact
