Leaders of the Youth CHOICES task force (Community building and mobilization for Healthy youth development through positive Opportunities, Intervention and prevention, Collaboration, Empowerment and Support to ensure success) announced National Mentoring Month to focus on the need for adults to mentor young people. Representatives of SMILES, Big Friends Little Friends, and the Boys and Girls Club joined CHOICES co-chairs Christian McCloskey and Jamison Souza to appeal for volunteers to work at those programs and for YouthBuild. Last September, Fall River was recognized as one of the 100 Best Communities for Young People by the America's Promise Alliance. One of the Five Promises is caring adults. "The month provides us an opportunity to thank those individuals who have mentored us at some point in our lives, whether it be a teacher, a coach, an advisor or a boss," said Youth Services Coordinator Christian McCloskey.
