Teams
composed of B.M.C.
Durfee High School faculty and members of the Fall
River Police Department were pitted against each other on January 4,
2013, for a fundraising game in the Luke Urban Field House at the High
School. The event was part of an effort to replenish the funds that
support an annual scholarship given to Durfee High School graduates. The
Al Attar Scholarship Committee, through the Durfee Parent Advisory
Committee and the Durfee Sports Boosters, sponsored the event. The Al
Attar Scholarship is named for the former Durfee principal and star of its
legendary 1956 Tech Tourney and New England championship hoops teams. The
spirited game was introduced by Mayor William Flanagan and State
Representatives Paul Schmid and Alan Silvia and cheered by members of the
schools cheerleaders. Though the game was tied 29-29 at the half, but the
Durfee faculty won 61 to 43. Click here for the Herald News
