Over 200 participants attended a day-long conference on Health, Workplace and Environment: Cultivating Connections sponsored by the Center for Promotion of Health in the New England Workplace held at the University of Connecticut at Storrs on October 17, 2013. The keynote address was delivered by Dr. John Howard, Director of the National Institute for Ocupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), though he was unable to attend in person due to the recent government sequester. Other presenters included Conference Chair Dr. Pouran Faghri, Ms. Roselyn Cama, Dr. Michele Gelfand, and Dr. Martin Cherniak. Following lunch and poster presentations by local students, Dr. Cherniak led a series of paresentations and discussions by Dr. Manuel Cifuentes, Dr. Mira Grice Sheff and Dr. David Weed. Dr. Weed's presentation covered the work that has been done over the past year to develop a worksite wellness strategy for small businesses in Fall River as part of Partners for a Healthier Community's overall strategy.
