An announcement of the 2013 Fall River Fitness Challenge was made at Greater Fall River Re-Creation headquarters on 72 Bank Street, Fall River, on January 2, 2012. Representatives of Re-Creation, FitWorks, General Fitness and Generations Fitness in Somerset were on hand to announce the upcoming health fair and registration for the four-month program that invites people who live, work or attend school in Fall River, Somerset, Swansea or Westport to improve their fitness and have fun in the process. In addition, the Fall River YMCA will be a participating location. Over 800 people have participated in each of the past five years, and this is the first year that it is being offered to residents beyond Fall River. The expansion has been made possible by Southcoast Hospitals who are sponsoring the program along with Partners for a Healthier Community, Inc.
