Fall River Mass in Motion coordinator Julianne Kelly presented at a workshop sponsored by the Marion Institute on Connecting for Change at the New Bedford Whaling Museum Visitors' Center on October 27, 2013. Entitled "Preserving Open Spaces Through Partnerships", the 90-minute symposium focused onthe importance of reconnecting people and their community green spaces effect the quality of life. In addition to presentations by Justin Hollander, Associate Professor of Urban and Environmental Policy and Planning at Tufts University, talking about shrinking urban spaces and John Vasconcellos of the Trustees of Reservations talking about the purchase and revitalization of the Haskell Farm in New Bedford. Ms. Kelly talked about efforts to preserve of Cook Pond and the Quequechan River in Fall River as well as the organization of the Park Advocates and the recent passage of the Preservation Trust Fund.
