Several members of VOICES for a Healthy SouthCoast, of which Healthy City Fall River is a part, were present at the 11th Annual Awards Breakfast of the Massachusetts Public Health Association (MPHA) on June 7, 2013 at the State Room at 60 State Street in downtown Boston. MPHA Board President Steven Bradley opened the event with brief remarks followed by Executive Director Toby Fisher who summarized past accomplishments and the current agenda of the organization, including a summary of the Act FRESH Campaign. Dr. Andrew Balder of Springfield, MA, was presented with the Public Health Leadership in Medicine Award, followed by Steven Fisher of the Worcester-based Regional Environmental Council who received the Alfred Frescette award and Lisa Rene Holderby-Fox of MACHW and Barbara Ferrer of the Boston Public Health Commission who each received Lemuel Shattuck Awards. All were urged to support the organization by Boston University Associate Dean for Public Health Practice Harold Cox. Click here for a brief video of part of the event.
