The Fall River Police Department held its annual Awards/Retirement/Promotions event on November 3, 2013 at White's Restaurant. to pay tribute to members of the force and citizens who have helped to promote public safety over the past year. Following the presentation of colors, the National Anthem, an invocation by Rev. Robert Lawrence, a benediction by Cantor Richard Wolberg and the Police Officer's Prayer by Sgt. John Silva Jr., Chief Daniel Racine and Mayor William Flanagan delivered messages to the over 500 in attendance. In addtion to many military service awards, honors for new retirees, letters of commendation, achievement awards, lifesaving awards, and Citizen-of-the-year awards, unit awards were given to the Department's Peer Counseling Unit led by Mike Moran of the Family Service Association, the School Resource Unit led by Sgt. Warren Francis, and the Street Crime Unit. The Civilian Achievement Award was given to Fall River Tobacco Control Officer Marilyn Edge for her exemplary service in improving the quality of life in the City.
