Mass in Motion Fall River coordinator Julie Kelly and Partners Executive Director Dr. David Weed were invited to present at a meeting of the Taunton Community Health Network Area (CHNA) on September 17, 2013. Ms. Kelly described the four-year development of initiatives to increase community resources for active living. She talked about the development of walking and bicycle paths throughout the City of Fall River while describing the necessary development of advocacy efforts to support those environmental changes. "These changes are possible because we have built networks of people who support them,": noted Kelly who has been instrumental in organizing a Park Advocates group and a Bicycle Commission within City government. Dr. Weed echoed her comments by describing other policy changes in tobacco and alcohol control as well as food policies. The group then discussed ways that the Taunton community could work to develop similar enviornmental improvements and policy changes that would support healthier lifestyles.
