About fifty people volunteered an afternoon of work at the City's new tree farm on the City's Earth Day, April 27, 2013. Set in motion by Mayor Flanaganan, an urban tree farm and community garden is being constructed on Sewer Department property on the south end of Bay Street. Neighborhood Outreach Coordinator Perry Long is working with a $25,000 grant from Bloomberg Philanthropies to tackle neighborhood revitalization challenges in Fall River. Part of the grant is going toward the creation of the farm and garden plots to be developed in partnership with the neighborhood associations, the Fall River Street Tree Planting Program, the Fall River Park Advocates, the Fall River Youth Court, Partners for a Healthier Community, the Community Development Agency, and the City's Department of Community Maintenance. Emily Hamilton of Davey Resource Group planned and laid out the tree farm. Fall River Mass In Motion Coordinator Julianne Kelly was on hand to record some of the many hands who helped.
