Hundreds of contestants and spectators gathered in the Luke Urban Field House at B.M.C. Durfee High School for the fourth annual Dodgeballin' for Kids fundraiser for the Children's Advocacy Center of Bristol County on May 3, 2013. The event was expected to raise more than $10,000 that will be shared with the Boys and Girls Club. The contest was originally organized in 2011 by Robert Costa Jr. as part of a sports marketing class at UMass-Dartmouth. Since then, more than $30,000 has been raised for local organizations. It is the largest charity dodgeball tournament anywhere. Dodgeball is growing as a sport, and teams were on hand from Providence and Boston with leagues throughout New England. Participating teams pay $25 to compete in three age categories (Toss for 11-12, Throw for 14-17 and Launch for 18+). Competing teams this year included "If you can dodge a wrench" and "We're smokin' hot." Click here for the Herald News article. Click here for a 90-second video of the event.
