The next edition of Southcoast Health's "Take a Walk with a Southcoast Doc" took place on August 23, 2014, at Allens Pond Wildlife Sanctuary in Westport. The walk was led by Southcoast Physicians Group family medicine physician Uma Kolli, M.D., who specializes in women's health and diabetes. Dr. Kolli discussed the benefits of walking and fielded general health questions. Walking just 30 minutes a day can decrease your risk of many health problems, including heart disease, stroke and diabetes. Participants received a free pedometer and "Better Health Kits" that include information on nutrition and exercise. Allens Pond  Wildlife Sanctuary spans hundreds of acres of protected land and is home to more than 300 species of birds. The Beach Loop Trail offers dramatic views of the pond and ocean.
