Fall River Traffic Department crew members Joe Dewsnap, Kevin Raposa and and Tony Souza were on Eastern Avenue near County Street on September 18, 2015 to refresh the badly worn road striping for pedestrian cross-walks. "You'll also soon see 'sharrows' along this route for bicycles," stated Dewsnap. The route is part of the Scholarship City Bike Path that was established several years ago to connect the UMass Advanced Technology and Manufacturing Center and the bike path that borders South Watuppa Pond and the rest of the Quequechan River Rail Trail with the schools at the northern end of Eastern Avenue, including Diman Regional Vocational Technical High School, Bristol Community College, BMC Durfee and Bishop Connolly High School. "It's important for us to keep these routes well marked," commented Kelly, "so cyclists and drivers will understand that this route is for both types of vehicles." (Middle row) Joe Dewsnap moves the painting machine over the old marks to refresh the "piano key" striping with new paint to make the cross walk more visible to vehicles. (Bottom row, center) Fall River Police Officer John Ruggiero accompanies the crew to make sure that traffic flows smoothly while the work proceeds.
