More than 300 photographs from fifty photographers capture the people, places and culture of the City of Fall River in "Fall River Portraits 2015." The exhibit opened on June 6, 2015 at the Narrows  Center for the Arts Gallery, featuring music by Jambalaya, a local band of seniors. "Some of the project participants are experienced photographers; others had never used anything other than a cell phone to take snapshots," said UMass-Dartmouth anthropology professor Andrea Klimt, Ph.D, who directed the project and curated the exhibit." Their visions are quite different from one another, but together they offer us insight into the often-missed beauty of the ordinary and challenge us to recognize the complex realities of this urban space." The exhibit is supported through the Creative Economy Initiatives Fund Project of the UMass President's Office. Participants range in age from 14 to 80, including UMass Dartmouth students, high school students from B.M.C. Durfee High School and Resiliency Preparatory School, and Senior Champion volunteers with the Fall River in Motion project under Coordinator Julie Kelly. The show will continue after July 1st in the Mass in Motion Staircase Gallery. Click here for a three-minute video of the opening. Click here for photos of the group working on the project.
