Greater Fall River Partners Executive Director Dr. David Weed was invited to present "Fed Up on the South Coast" based on the documentary film, Fed Up, produced by ABC's Katie Couric and "Inconvenient Truth's" Laurie David, to participants in  the February 5, 2015 Allies for Health and Wellness meeting.  Held at the Southeast Regional Health Office of the Massachusetts Department of Public Health saw a portion of the video produced in 2013 to educate the public on the USDA policy recommending lowering dietary fat that led to increases in sugars and other carbohydrates that raised levels of overweight and obesity over the past forty years. "We thought it was the fat that caused weight gain when all along it was the carbs," stated Dr. Weed in the twenty-minute video. Weed went on to talk about the poor research described in Nina Teicholz's book, The Big Fat Surprise, that supported the erroneous low fat recommendations of organizations such as the American Heart Association and the American Diabetes Association, and pointed to a new coalition that is working to change the national dietary policies.  Click here for a for a 13-minute video of the event.
