Another Nutrition Challenge session was held on April 18th in the second floor classroom at 72 Bank Street as part of the Eighth Annual Greater Fall River Fitness Challenge  The hour-long discussion, led by Partners for a Healthier Community Executive Director Dr. David Weed, followed the first ten minutes of the video "Fed Up on The South Coast" and focused on the rationale for low-carb diets and the inaccurate demonization of dietary fats that were once thought to lead to heart disease. (Row two) the group listens to the reason why overweight is increasing in our area due to high carbohydrate foods and the avoidance of dietary fat. (Bottom row) After a discussion of the video, participants look over some of the handouts that explain that fats do not cause heart disease and that higher amounts of fats in their diets as and may actually reduces the risk of cardiovascular disease before talking with Dr. Weed.
