Representative Carole Fiola invited Fall River residents to join her on July 14, 2015 for one of her Walk and Talk events, this time at the Oak Grove Cemetery at the eastern end of Prospect Street. The Representative invited resident Gale Powers, who is a member of the Friends of Oak Grove Cemetery and the Fall River Preservation Society, to guide the group on the one-hour walk. The group walked to the Lizzie Borden family gravesite and visited a number of other historical figures from Fall River's past including Captain of Industry and Fall River Line founder Colonel Richard Borden, United States Federal Judge James Madison Morton, and several others who shaped the city's history. Those who attended Representative Fiola's walk traveled the meandering paths through Oak Grove Cemetery and also learned a great deal about how the cemetery was designed and how it was used as a recreational space even in its earliest days. Click here for a 17-minute video of the first part of the walk. Click here for a Walk and Talk event with Rep. Fiola held on the Taunton River boardwalk. (Row three) Gale responds to questions about the cemetery's history before taking the group on a route past the most interesting features, including the crypt where bodies were once stored during the winter months when graves could not be dug through the frozen earth. (Row four) Representative Fiola's Aide, Peter Daley, takes photos while Gale continues the walk, pointing out some of the more notable "residents" of the cemetery. (Bottom row) Gale and Representative Fiola comment on the most famous grave site, the Borden Family plot where Lizbeth Borden is buried, before leading the group to some other sites,
