Striping of the dedicated bicycle lane on Plymouth Avenue was completed before the contractual deadline of August 21, 2015, giving Fall River its first fully multi-mobile street. The striping was part of an $8.2 million reconstruction of the northern portion of State Route 88 that connects the South End of the City with the major east-west Pleasant and Bedford Streets as well as Interstate Route 195. "This is a major achievement for Fall River in its efforts to establish 'Complete Streets' that allow private vehicles, city buses, bicycles and pedestrians access to key travel routes," stated Mass In Motion Fall River Coordinator Julianne Kelly who advocated for the striping during the planning stages of the reconstruction project. "It it weren't for Bike Fall River and other advocates, the bicycle lanes would never have happened," added Kelly. Bike Fall River is an official City Committee that not only advocates for bicycle access and safety but also organizes frequent rides for cyclists of all abilities. Mass in Motion is a state-wide public health effort designed to encourage physical activity to improve health. Click here for a 30-second video. (Row three) Dr. Weed moves past one of the many bicycle symbols that clearly mark the lane as fifteen-year-old Gage Durfee rides his bike in the opposite direction.
