Community leaders from a broad
range of agencies held a White
Ribbon Rally at Fall River Government Center to mark the beginning of Domestic Violence Awareness Month
on October 1, 2015. Representatives of The
Greater Fall River Domestic Violence Coalition were on hand to participate and
speak about the importance of getting men to step up and pledge to stop
domestic violence. Mayor and former District Attorney Sam Sutter began the
event by raising the Domestic Violence Prevention flag on a flagpole
outside Government Center. Presenters introduced by Greater Domestic
Violence Coalition President-elect Deanne Gomes-Stanley included District
Attorney Thomas Quinn III, Mayor Sutter, Dale Brown of the SSTAR
Women’s Center, Fall River Police Chief Daniel Racine and Somerset
Police Chief George McNeil. A presentation on "Men and Boys as
Partners in Prevention" by Craig Norberg-Gohm of Jane Doe Inc
followed. The event ended with all men present invited to sign a large
banner after pledging to end domestic violence. Click
