Bank Street Neighborhood Association President Natalie Melo met Greater Fall River reCreation Executive Director Grace Gerling on March 23, 2016 at the site of a new community garden near the corner of Bank Street and 7th Street. The City has been turned the space over to Greater Fall River Re-Creation to be operated by the Bank Street, Niagara and Father Kelly Neighborhood Associations. “I see this as a fabulous opportunity to give something back to the community,” commented Melo. “I see the potential for not only providing garden space for people in the neighborhood but also a place where people can come to learn about gardening and nutrition,” she added. Melo envisions school children visiting and working in the garden and presentations on food and cooking taking place in the space. A number of donations have already been made and the Fall River Street Tree Planting Program will also donate four trees to be planted along the perimeter of the garden.
