Healer, author and former registered nurse, Gabrielle Doucet shared her story and coping strategies at a Community Conversation on suicide prevention and dealing with loss at the Fall River YMCA on October 27, 2016. Doucet, who authored the book Let Go & Love, shared her own experiences with the death of her 41-year-old son by suicide in the spring of 2011. Over time, she learned to live with his decision and survive without him by adopting some strategies that she now shares with others who experience this kind of loss. She also advocates for reducing the stigma against talking about suicide that keeps so many survivors from dealing openly with their pain. The forum was sponsored by  United Neighbors of Fall RiverPartners for a Healthier Community and the Samaritans of Bristol County, with the help of the Bristol County District Attorney's Office and the Fall River Herald News. Thirty-one people attended to hear Doucet and to share their own experiences. Formed to respond to the rising incidence of suicides in Bristol County and to promote prevention, education and support services, a Suicide Prevention Task Force meets monthly at the HealthFirst Family Care Center.
