Members and friends of NAMI of Bristol County gathered on October 3, 2016 at the Corrigan Mental Health Center on Hillside Street in Fall River to celebrate Mental Illness Awareness Week. Chapter President Brenda Venice welcomed Mayor Jasiel Correia II who presented her with a citation to mark the occasion. Chapter Secretary Ray Tetrault then rang a bell for each of those with mental illness had passed away during the previous year. Ms. Venice then presented Heroes in the Fight recognition awards to members of the Corrigan Emergency Services Unit and to Jessica Kryla who was honored for her service to fellow clients. The program concluded refreshments served in the building lobby and a chance for people to re-connect. NAMI is a grassroots, not-for-profit advocacy and support group organized by families of persons with severe and long-term mental illnesses. The group offers a monthly support group to any family member at the First Baptist Church, 228 North Main Street, Fall River, on the third Wednesday of the month from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. Click here for a 15-minute video of the event.
