Care Coordinator Tami O'Neil of Family Service Association obtained a United Way Community Impact Grant which is providing four weeks of health presentations at the Niagara/Maplewood Senior Center and the South Main Senior Center over the months of March and April 2016. The first session covered strength building, the second chair yoga and the third ways of reducing dietary sodium. For the final session, Family Service Association staff member Nan Beaulieu led a group of seniors in a dance for fitness session that emphasized having fun while increasing activity levels. "Dance is a type of cardio exercise, like walking or swimming, that increases your heart rate," stated Beaulieu. "You want to find something that's fun because if you enjoy your physical activity, you're going to keep up with it," she added. She taught the group several simple line dances that they were able to do to familiar tunes, such as "My Guy." Click here for an 11-minute   video of the presentation. For more information, contact Tami O'Neil, LSW at 508-730-1138, Ext. 3577.
