The Samaritans of Fall River and New Bedford held their first fundraiser walk on Saturday, October 1, 2016 with a walk around the pond at the north end of the Bristol Community College campus. "We have volunteers, family members, loss survivors, board members from businesses, from the DA's Office, to people who just really care," stated Board Chairman Ted Figlock. "Even though it's raining, our path is partly flooded, we're in great spirits and excited because this is making a difference," he added. The Samaritans is a non-religious charity which provides confidential emotional support to any person who is lonely, depressed, or suicidal. Services are offered to the communities of Greater Fall River and Greater New Bedford. They provide a free and confidential Suicide Prevention and Crisis Hot Line staffed by caring, trained volunteers available seven days a week from 8:00 AM to 11:00 PM. This service provides unprejudiced and nonjudgmental support to those who are alone, depressed or in crisis. Anyone can find a caring empathetic ear at The Samaritans.
