Partners Executive Director Dr. David Weed presented another session in the series on "How to Lose Weight Without Going Hungry" as part of  the Greater Fall River Fitness Challenge. The series is offered to Challenge participants who are attempting to lose weight in the Challenge through exercise, though research is clear that exercise is not a good for long-term weight loss. Low carbohydrate, high fat diets, on the other hand, have repeatedly been  demonstrated to lead to significant weight loss, especially when compared to low-fat, calorie-restricted approaches. In this session, Dr. Weed and Southcoast Registered Dietitian Amanda Raposo talked about the challenges of maintaining a low-carb, high-fat diet when one eats away from home. Click here for a 49-minute video of the presentation. Click here for the presentation that Dr. Weed gave in the previous week and here for all of his and others' presentations on the topic. (Top row) After participants help themselves to copies of low-carb recipes, Dr. Weed invites them to sample a low-carb quiche that he made with the heavy cream left over from the previous week's session. (Row two)  Southcoast Health Registered Dietitian Amanda Raposo, who has been successfully recommending low-carb high-fat diets for the patients she treats, and Dr. Weed explain some of the challenges of maintaining the diet when eating away from home. (Rows three and four) Dr. Weed and Ms. Raposo make some suggestions for making choices in restaurants and handling meals when you're invited to eat at someone else's home.
