The BCC Holocaust Center presented a program entitled "Crimes Against Humanity: Native American Genocide" in the Jackson Arts Center Auditorium on March 31, 2017 as part of its spring series. "Today we're going to be talking about a genocide that people don't think about that extended over a long period of time in our country's history," stated  BCC Holocaust Center Director Ron Weisburger. He then introduced Columbia University History Professor Dr. Karl Jacoby who gave an hour lecture entitled "A History of Violence, The Violence of History: Native American Genocide." His talk was followed by a panel composed of four local Native Americans, Mashantucket Pequot and Wampanoag tribal member Tall Oak Weeden, Aquinnah Wampanoag member Linda Coombs, Niantic Narragansett member Loren Spears, and Shinnecok and Montauk member Sheena Lee. Following questions from the audience and a break for lunch, tribal members led audience members in several traditional tribal dances. The Holocaust Center provides historical information, educational experiences, and multimedia resources to communicate the suffering, pain and deaths of innocent millions during the Holocaust and other genocides.
