Mayor's Child Nutrition Partnership

The Mayor's Child Nutrition Partnership is reviewing the nutrition of thousands of meals served to Fall River youth in a variety of settings, including schools and the summer Lunch in the Park program. Through programs like the Child Nutrition Partnership, Fall River manages to serve children in 19 of the city's 21 elementary schools free breakfast every day, regardless of family income. There is also an after school snack program open to all students, as well as a summer lunch program and an infant food drive (see photo) to raise funds for healthy foods for children served through the Women, Infants and Children (WIC) program.

Goal:

To increase the number of people who live or work in Fall River who consume at least five servings of fruits and vegetables every day.

To seek out opportunities to work in coordination with pre-existing programs to enhance the menu to include more fruit and vegetables through building partnerships and develop public education campaigns to educate and remind

Progress: The Fall River Child Nutrition Partnership has made great strides in addressing the need to enhance children's nutritional health by meeting its goals to increase participation by broadening children's access to the Summer Food program, School Breakfast & Fall River Food Pantry through funding and local collaboration of effort and support.

How citizens can  get involved:

By supporting the Fall River Food Bank; by setting example in one' own life; supporting any food drives or education initiatives geared toward encouraging healthier eating habits.
