Priority Area:  Safety and Substance Abuse
Priority Sub-Area:

1, C)    Reduction of gangs

Goal:

To reduce crime in targeted areas and neighborhoods by increasing citizen involvement in crime prevention.

Method(s):

Education, encouragement and enforcement. Public Safety Day and Operation Safe Strip on Plymouth and RI Avenues, CFC Health Fair, Citizens Police Academy.
Timeline:

Ongoing

Indicators:        Attendance at both days; the enforcement of motor vehicle violations on the Avenues will be indicated by the level of reduction over the period.
Progress: Using a three-pronged approach (education, encouragement and enforcement) the FRPD’s goal to reduce or eradicate gang activity has been successful to date and gang violence is the exception and not the rule in Fall River, compared to other cities our size. Public forums, neighborhood meetings, PTO groups, and athletics including bike rodeos and basketball shoot outs are some of the strategies that are used.

How citizens can  get involved:

Attendance at events; reporting of conditions on the Avenue regarding vehicle violation concerns
