Summer Neighborhood Festivals
Action Plan Participant:
City of Fall River, Department of Health & Human Services

Four Neighborhood Associations team up with the Mayor’s Office and Community Development Recreation each summer to offer Festivals in City parks that are open to all city residents. This year, the Festivals will include educational information about nutrition, tobacco and physical fitness resources available in the city. People attending the festivals will be able to pick up information such as healthy recipes, information on quitting smoking and suggestions for including fitness in their daily routine.

Goal:

To educate the community on the activities of existing and newly forming community groups working to address health-related issues in the City.

Method(s):

A display of Family Fun Fitness and Resources, including fun-based physical activities and a healthy food choice food court, will be held at each of the four Neighborhood Festivals.

Timeline:          

Four festivals are scheduled between late July and early August.

Number of participants at each festival

Progress: The four festivals reached 250 individuals at each park, supplying free entertainment, free family fun activities that challenged physical abilities, personal health, skill and knowledge levels with a wide variety of inter-active, engaging activities that provided amusement to the participants and an opportunity for organizations and agencies to outreach to the community.

How citizens can  get involved:

Volunteers are needed to help at each festival.
