Food, fun and Fitness Program
Action Plan Participant:
Health First Family Care Center

Health First Family Care Center offers an interactive approach to health and fitness. Families meet monthly with a nutritionist and a social worker for education and fun activities. Children receive a free membership to the Boys and Girls Club for a free family swim every Wednesday night. CD Recreation offers a recreation/sports program on the first and third Saturday. Family members receive free incentive items (e.g. soccer ball) for participating.

Goal:

To educate family low income family members on fitness and nutrition.

Method(s):

An interactive program of education and fitness.

Timeline:          

September 2003 to July 2004.

Indicators:       

The percentage of family members who remain active in the program.

Progress: An interactive program of education and fitness was held during July and August, 2004, for low-income families. Follow-ups to determine the percentage of participants who remain active in the program were conducted.

By advocating for funding for similar programs.
