Neighborhood Association Crime Watch
Action Plan Participant:
City of Fall River, Health & Human Services Department
An award-winning Neighborhood Crime Watch program has been operating in a number of Fall River neighborhoods enlisting citizens through neighborhood associations to increase surveillance and resulting in arrests for drug-related criminal activity as part of the Safe Neighborhoods Initiative.

 

Priority Area:  Safety and Substance Abuse 
Priority Sub-Area:    1, A)    Increased community policing and personal safety

Goal:

To increase neighborhood surveillance of criminal activity; to maintain a high quality of life in all neighborhoods

Method(s):

Inform, encourage and support the establishment of Neighborhood Crime Watch programs through all the neighborhood associations.
Timeline:           Summer 2004 - Summer 2005
Indicators:        The establishment of at least one new group.
Progress: The neighborhood associations have worked together over the past year to address common concerns. The prevention of Heroin abuse was the major focus of concerns this year and many of the local leaders participated in the HELPP series at the Fall River Police station.

How citizens can  get involved:

 

By participating in the Neighborhood Crime Watch training sessions and becoming more knowledgeable of the statewide support and resources.
