Portuguese Do A Little Get A Lot Outreach
Action Plan Participant:
Diabetes Association, Inc.

The Diabetes Association, Inc. adapted a national research  Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP) study conducted by the National Institute of Health and applied it to a project at the Lightolier Corporation in Fall River's Industrial Park. This successful program has now been adapted for use within the Portuguese-speaking community in Fall River and will be taught to local community leaders who can implement it within their own programs.

Goal:

To decrease the incidence of Type 2 diabetes among the at-risk population

Method(s):

The program teaches the use of fitness and nutrition resources within the Portuguese-speaking community to prevent the onset of Type 2 diabetes.

2007-2008

Indicators:       

Reduced incidence of Type 2 diabetes among the participating population.
