Walking School Bus Program
Action Plan Participant:
Sts. Peter and Paul School, Fall River Diocese

Teachers at the Saints Peter & Paul School on Dover Street began a Walking School Bus Program on International Walk to School Day, October 3, 2007. Headed up by Principal Kathy Burt and teacher Jenn Souza, the project encourages the opportunity to walk to school in a safe and enjoyable way to benefit their health.

Goal:

To encourage more children and parents to walk to school on a regular basis

Method(s):

Walkers receive small plastic "feet" as a reward for walking

Timeline:          

October through November, 2007, and April through May, 2008

Progress: Over 30 children participated in the daily walks

By requesting permission for parents to have their children participate
