Waterfront Access Plan

In July of 2001, the Mayor's Office and the Fall River Office of Economic Development (F.R.O.E.D.) announced plans  to develop a state-of-the art multi-use facility that could accommodate marine- industrial uses, as well as exhibition space, office space, and a restaurant and performing arts area. Federal funding has  been secured and work has begun to better connect the downtown with the waterfront and free up 8-10 acres of land for mixed use development. Funds have also been identified to increase waterfront parking.

Goal:

To open access to the City's waterfront on Mount Hope Bay and the Taunton River by altering the structures that interface with the waterfront in order to create greater public access and use.

Method(s):

Planning and construction with public and private funding.

Timeline:          

Multi-year planning timeframe over the next ten years

Progress: A boardwalk has been constructed, a new state pier is being designed, physical improvements are being made to the State Pier, and a new park is being developed on Water Street. Cruise line visits have increased each year.
Indicators:       

Completion of the project in stages.

How citizens can  get involved:

Attend public forums as planned and use existing
waterfront attractions during festivals and event.
