Healthy City By Design Summit 2009

The Healthy City By Design Summit was held at Fall River Government Center on March 19,  2009, to prepare for the development of the next five-year Community Action Plan.

A Keynote speaker Mark Fenton set the stage for exploring ways that  policies, systems and environments in Fall River could be altered to better promote healthy living.

Mark leads the group on a 45-minute walking analysis of Fall River's downtown environment pointing out opportunities to increase walking, bicycle and bus transportation that would promote a healthier lifestyle for City residents.

Mark Fenton helps participants understand the importance of moving from programs to policies in promoting sustained health behaviors.

The Summit included  four workshops covering 1) food and nutrition, 2) the built environment and transit, 3) business and economic development, and 4) schools and education,

City Department heads and representatives of local agencies and organizations discussed possible changes that could be made to make the healthy choice the easier choice.
