Action Plan Participant:
Partners for a Healthier Community, Inc.
The focus of the Healthy Youth Task Force is on youth substance abuse and violence prevention and any intervention involved in preventing youth risk behaviors. This Work Group of Partners for a Healthier Community, Inc. collaborates closely with school systems to ensure an integration between school-based and over thirty community programs. For more photos and information about the most recent annual Poster Contest, click here.

 

Priority Area:  Safety and Substance Abuse 
Priority Sub-Area:    1, A)    Increased community policing and personal safety

Goal:

To reduce alcohol, tobacco, and other drug use and violence among youth between the ages of 12-17 in the Greater Fall River area

Method(s):      

Sponsors an annual Poster Contest for area elementary, middle and high school aged youth. Co-sponsors the annual Mayor’s Youth Forum
Timeline:           Annual event held every year in June
Indicators:        Decreased violence and substance use among area youth
Progress: The annual Mayor’s Youth Forum is planned in coordination with the Mayor’s Youth Council and a number of youth-serving agencies. The Work Group also sponsors an annual art contest in city schools featuring a health prevention theme.

Anyone with an interest may join the Healthy Youth Task Force which meets on the third Wednesday of each month at 3:30 p.m. at the South school administration building on Tucker Street.
