The Massachusetts Community Water Watch held a Make a Difference Day Cleanup on October 23, 2004, at the North Watuppa Pond, the source of Fall River's drinking water. The work was part of the national Make a Difference Day, an AmeriCorps national day of service. The work included removal of debris that has collected from passing vehicles on Route 24 endangering the city's water supply. The work was supervised by Jim Terrio, Director of Administrative Services for the Water Department. Volunteers were organized by Talima Brown, an organizer with Mass. Community Water Watch.

The waterways in Massachusetts are polluted at a rate that is double the national average. The mission of the Massachusetts Community Water Watch, a project of the Massachusetts Student Public Interest Research Group (MASSPIRG), Mass Service Alliance, and AmeriCorps, is to monitor and clean up our waterways now and for future generations.
