The Neighborhood Summer Festival 2004 offered four, free, fun events filled with physical activities, games, music, dancing and a giant climbing wall on Tuesday afternoons from July 20 - August 10, beginning with Abbott Court, then Lafayette Park and followed by Maplewood Park and finally North Park. This festival was made possible through the generous donations of corporate sponsors, which include; City of Fall River, the Fall River Police Department, Partners for a Healthier Community, Saint Anne's Credit Union, Fall River Ford, McGovern's Family Restaurant & Banquet Facility, Army National Guard and Gold. The Neighborhood Summer Festival 2004 and all of its activities were organized by the Community Coordinator Maureen Ryan Estes with assistance from After-School Coordinator Marilyn Edge and the invaluable partnership with Grace Gerling and Community Development Recreation, Chief John Souza, Officer Warren Francis and the Fall River Police Department, Fall River Youth Service Coordinator Christian McCloskey and the Mayor's Youth Council. | ||

The Maplewood
Neighborhood Festival offered plenty of healthy activities for
participants, including a basketball shoot-out organized by Youth
Coordinator Christian McCloskey (left, top left photo) and the Community
Police Officer Warren Francis (middle, top center photo) with the help of
Officer Derek Silva (left, top center photo) of the Fall River Police Department, a hula hoop contest, dancing,
and a climbing wall. In addition, Nic Charest (center right photo) of SSTAR Youth offered a game of Alcohol
Prevention Bingo. (Bottom row) Staff of the Rhode Island Rock Gym of
Smithfield, RI, operated the climbing wall, and Mayor Edward M. Lambert,
Jr., dances with some of the young people who enjoyed the event. |
