In recognition of National Night Out, residents in neighborhoods throughout Fall River and across the nation were asked to lock their doors, turn on outside lights and spend the evening outside with neighbors and police. Mayor Edward M. Lambert, Jr., kicked off the festivities by reading a proclamation at the third Summer Neighborhood Festival at Maplewood Park on August 3, 2004. A mini-basketball clinic and skills competition was held at the Bank Street Armory for youth ages 6 to 18 from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. The celebration then moved to Griffin Park from 7:15 to sundown with the Corky Row National Night Out Festival. The event was sponsored by the Mayor's office, the city's Human Services Division, the Fall River Police Department, and the Fall River Healthy City Initiative.
