Over 100 young people from B.M.C. Durfee High School, Bishop Connolly High School, Diman Regional High School and Kuss, Henry Lord, Morton and Talbot Middle Schools gathered at White's Restaurant for the Sixth Annual Youth Summit. Mayor Robert Correia and Cynthia Loesch of Family, Inc. addressed the assembled youth. Participants then broke into five groups, each taking one of the five America's Promise issues and talked about what is or is not getting done in each area. Groups were then challenged to come up with short-term and long-term action steps and to illustrate them using "Freeze Frames" for the rest of the group. Partners understands that youth have to be involved in shaping the quality of life in the Greater Fall River Area and supports the many ways youth are active in addressing health-related and quality-of-life issues among their peers. This year's Mayor's Youth Forum provided an opportunity for Fall River youth to gather, share and learn with one another, and to review the progress they have achieved on the Healthy City goals they outlined at the 2003 Forum (see below). (Above) Fall River area youth attend a day-long Mayor's Youth Forum  on May 17, 2003, at Bristol Community College. The speak-out, facilitated by Boston-based Teen Empowerment, provided an opportunity for all Fall River youth to share their ideas about how to improve their quality of life in Fall River. Youth voiced their issues to City officials, including Mayor Edward Lambert, Superintendent Richard Pavao, Police Chief John Souza, Chamber of Commerce President Peter Kortright, MCAS Pathways to Success Specialist Aimee Bronhard and First Assistant Clerk Magistrate Cheryl Blackburn. Youth were urged to get involved in efforts to help make the changes they recommended as part of the Healthy Fall River Initiative.
